I'm a London-based violinist, improviser, and occasional choral alto working primarily in the fields of experimental and classical music. I approach experimental music with the rigour instilled in me by the classical tradition, and classical music with the sense of detachment and curiosity that my engagement with experimental music has inspired.
Most of the contemporary music that I like is quiet, spacious, often repetitive, and always allows me the scope to pay attention to the violin in granular detail. I'm also spending an increasing amount of time learning and re-learning baroque solo violin repertoire (and singing renaissance polyphony). I particularly enjoy the intimacy of collaborating in small chamber groups, developing close listening within various ensemble contexts. Engaging with this music also fuels my academic interests in practice research, listening, embodiment, and ideas of material agency.
I'm currently working to develop a deeper knowledge of microtonality, and to apply my affinity with deep listening and fragility to the interpretation of modernist and romantic repertoire that at surface level appears to negate this outlook. My reading at the moment is mostly around Giacinto Scelsi and subverting the notion of the musical work. More on this to come.
